Ambassador to the United States

ABOUT THE CAMEROON AMBASSADOR TO THE UNITED STATES

Henri Etoundi Essomba is a Cameroon Ambassador and is a former Dean of the Republic’s International Corps of Diplomats. Ambassador Essomba served as Ambassador to Israel for 12 years and Egypt 14 years before assuming responsibility as Ambassador to the United States in 2016. Prior to his service as an Ambassador, His Excellency served as Cameroon Desk Officer in the Ministry of Extranational Relations, First Secretary and Consul of the Cameroon Embassy in Paris (France), and Counselor and Charged’ Affaires A.I. of the Cameroon Embassy in Tel Aviv (Israel).

While much of the work of Ambassador Essomba in Israel focused positive relations based on a peace Cameroon had known which had been difficult for Israel, his challenge in his diplomatic service in the United States has been to get good information before the American people about the future economic
opportunities for both America and the African American population in America that could have an immense impact on the development of all of Africa. Success in advancing American government and private interest investment in infrastructure, manufacturing, mining, port development, transportation logistics and agricultural opportunities in Cameroon is less fluid in America than with countries like France and China because of historical media interest in promoting Black African social dysfunction rather than economic opportunity; and Ambassador Essomba has been slowly but steadily changing that. Ambassador Essomba has been an excellent history and culture education advocate with the ability to provide context to the complex and difficult journey of Cameroon as a “young nation” that was formally two separate territorial colonies of France and Britian that is only sixty years old. His efforts to inform African Americans in particular of their potential ancestral birthright and responsibility to participate in the economic development of Cameroon given more than 10% of all enslaved Africans departed from the Port of Bimbia, has stimulated growing interest in American exploration of investment, commerce and trade there.

Ambassador Essomba has advocated for strong African-African American business investment partnerships as a means of creating jobs and economic expansion in Cameroon and America; and in supporting a sustained peace in the West African Region through increased economic stability and growth. As one of the world’s leading producers of crude oil, and a land rich with deposits of natural gas, cobalt, bauxite, iron ore, gold and diamonds, Cameroon’s door to business has been opened by Ambassador Essomba for America and African Americans to do business with and in Cameroon.
